Women Beyond Limits: LANEF and YAFO Institute Unite to Champion Liberty and Inclusive Leadership in Ghana

The Liberty Sphere Conference 2025, which marked a significant milestone in advancing the discourse on liberty, leadership, and inclusive development in Ghana, was held on September 12th, 2025, at the Anagkazo Campus in Aburi. Organized by the Ladies Network for Economic Freedom (LANEF) and the Yafo Institute, the event convened changemakers, thought leaders, entrepreneurs, students, researchers, and journalists, all united by a shared mission to promote liberty, innovation, and personal freedom as essential pillars for national progress.

This year’s conference provided a transformative platform for open dialogue, practical learning, and cross-sector collaboration. Participants gained actionable insights into entrepreneurial opportunities, funding mechanisms, and legal frameworks that protect intellectual property and nurture innovation. By linking freedom and enterprise, the conference demonstrated how liberty is not only a political ideal but also a driver of creativity, growth, and empowerment across communities.

A Transformative Conversation on Women’s Leadership

The conference’s session on the theme: Women Beyond Limits: Advancing Leadership for Inclusive Development in Ghana was a thought-provoking panel discussion.

Moderated by Benedicta Nelmon, Policy Scholar and SFL Coordinator for Ghana, the session featured distinguished panelists including our Executive Director, Angela Okai-Nartey, Mandy Wiredu (Local Coordinator of SFL), and Gifty Boatemaa Annan (CEO of WestlionCo). Each speaker brought a wealth of experience and authenticity to the conversation, exploring the complex realities women face in leadership and the systemic barriers that continue to limit their potential.

The discussion delved deeply into themes such as access to mentorship, gender bias in leadership spaces, policy gaps, and cultural expectations that often hinder women’s advancement. The speakers emphasized the importance of investing in self-development, continuous learning, and strategic networking, urging women to position themselves as decision-makers and innovators in every sector.

Beyond highlighting the challenges, the panel mapped out clear strategies for transformation, including promoting gender-responsive policies, creating mentorship ecosystems, and encouraging partnerships between men and women to build inclusive institutions. The role of male allies in fostering equitable leadership was particularly underscored, emphasizing that inclusive development cannot be achieved in isolation.

From Dialogue to Action

The “Women Beyond Limits” panel concluded with a powerful collective call to action:

Move from talk to tangible change — from policy to practice, and from inclusion to influence.

The panelists agreed that advancing women’s leadership remains one of the most underutilized yet powerful strategies for achieving inclusive and sustainable development in Ghana. They called for a concerted national effort to dismantle structural inequalities, transform institutional cultures, and empower women at every level — from grassroots to government, from boardrooms to communities.

Their message was clear: true development is impossible when half of a nation’s talent, vision, and potential remain untapped. Empowering women to lead is not a matter of charity or compliance — it is a matter of national necessity and progress.

Strengthening the Liberty Movement in Ghana

Through this partnership, LANEF and Yafo Institute demonstrated the power of collaboration in advancing both liberty-centered ideas and inclusive development. The conference reaffirmed the shared belief that freedom, whether social, economic, or political, must translate into tangible opportunities that uplift individuals and communities.

For us at LANEF, this initiative aligns with our ongoing mission to empower women through leadership, innovation, and social transformation. For the Yafo Institute, it reinforces its role as a leading voice in promoting individual liberty, good governance, and free-market solutions across Africa.

The Liberty Sphere Conference 2025 was more than an event; it was an awakening. It challenged participants to rethink leadership, reimagine freedom, and recommit to building a Ghana where innovation thrives and inclusion is the standard, not the exception.

As both organizations look ahead, the partnership between the LANEF and Yafo Institute will continue to inspire action, nurture leadership, and advance the principles of liberty and empowerment across the continent.
